In an ISL match on Saturday at Salt Lake Stadium, East Bengal was unable to maintain the momentum after a significant victory and had to settle for a goalless draw against the resilient defense of the debutant Punjab FC.

ISL 2023-24: Punjab FC shares spoils with East Bengal

Following their thrilling 5-0 victory over NorthEast United FC, EBFC was only able to muster a point from the goalless match due to their inability to replicate the rhythm.

In an effort to deny EBFC attackers a clear shot at goal, Punjab played a largely defensive game, making it difficult for the host’s attack to get momentum. Despite dominating the midfield and mounting a few strong raids, East Bengal was unable to keep any of its shots on goal during the first session. The Punjab defender Nitesh Darjee fouled Cleiton Silva early in the first quarter, prompting Carles Cuadrat’s team to request a penalty, but the referee decided to reject it.
