Kanam Rajendran, the Kerala State Secretary of the Communist Party of India (CPI), passed away on Friday at a Kochi private hospital. He was receiving medical care.

Owing to health concerns, the 73-year-old leader asked to step down from his role as party secretary a few days ago. Since 2015, Kanam has served as the CPI’s state secretary.

Kanam Rajendran’s political career was lengthy and significant. In 1982 and 1987, he ran for office and was elected from the Kottayam district’s Vazhur constituency. In addition, he served in important capacities as the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) State Secretary and the All India Students’ Federation (AISF) State Secretary.
