An opposition lawmaker in India was expelled by the parliament after it was alleged that she accepted bribes in exchange for raising inquiries.

Mahua Moitra said she was kicked out “without proof,” despite her denial of the accusations.

The lower house of parliament, the Lok Sabha, approved a resolution on Friday that led to the expulsion. The vote was conducted by voice.

An ethics panel report that suggested Ms. Moitra be expelled was presented to the house earlier in the day. The speaker refused to give opposition lawmakers’ request for additional time to review the nearly 500-page report before the debate began.
